Understanding Ayurveda: The Science of Natural Healing
Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest natural healing systems, originating in India more than 5,000 years ago. The word Ayurveda comes from Sanskrit, where Ayur means life and Veda means knowledge — together meaning “the science of life.”
Ayurveda focuses on maintaining balance between the body, mind, and spirit to achieve overall wellness. According to Ayurvedic principles, every person has a unique body constitution known as Doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
- Vata governs movement, circulation, and the nervous system.
- Pitta controls digestion, metabolism, and body heat.
- Kapha supports strength, immunity, and body structure.
When these doshas become imbalanced, health problems may arise. Ayurveda uses natural methods such as herbal remedies, proper nutrition, yoga, meditation, massage therapies, and detoxification to restore balance.
